Bank of Tennessee Victim of Recent Attempted ATM Burglary

JOHNSON CITY, TENN., December 20, 2023 – Bank of Tennessee confirmed today that the Med Tech Branch was victim to the recent string of regional automated teller machine (ATM) burglaries.

Following the incident in the early hours of December 19, 2023, police officers discovered the ATM had been removed from its foundation and pulled through the parking lot. The machine was found still attached to a running vehicle that was stolen for use in the crime. While the ATM and a vehicle parked in the lot sustained significant damage, no cash was stolen from the machine, and no customer personal information was compromised.

“We are disappointed that someone would attempt to break into one of our ATMs,” said Will Barrett, CEO of Bank of Tennessee. “We take the security of our customers’ information and funds very seriously and are working closely with law enforcement to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”

The crime is similar to others in the region and across the state. Anyone with information should contact the Johnson City Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at (423) 434-6166. Suspicious activities around local financial institutions can also be reported to Emergency Services at 9-1-1.
